23 Concerts, 5 Continents, 50,000 miles and in 24 days. The award winning concert documentary… The Iron Maiden Film: Flight 666, is all set to take off on May 8th, 2009 in India. What’s best is that the movie is being released in theatres (in select cities) by PVR Pictures, in association with EMI Music India. So we don’t need to frantically hunt for a torrent to catch a preview of the film. This much awaited documentary based on the world-renowned British rock band opens in digital cinemas across Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore.
PVR’s press release calls the full length music documentary an exhilarating, honest and often humorous account about the first leg of the band’s historic ‘Somewhere Back in Time’ World Tour, covering February and March of 2008. is considered to be the most ambitious and adventurous tour in metal history. The Iron Maiden Film: Flight 666 puts Mumbai on the world map with the Mumbai concert being the opening shot of the film. It continues to document the band’s journey on their customized Boeing 757 airliner, christened Ed Force One, piloted by lead singer Bruce Dickinson, with the entire tour crew and 12 tons of music and stage equipment on board, to 23 sold out stadium and arena shows in Asia, Australia and North, Central and South America. The band played in 13 countries, also landing in Azerbaijan and Papua New Guinea en route for fuel stops, travelling 50,000 miles (70,000 km) and performing to almost half a million.

Earlier this year, Flight 666 won the 24 Beats Per Second award for best music documentary at the SXSW Film & Music Festival in Austin, Texas. This follows the band’s recent win at the 2009 Brit Awards for Best British Live Act.
The film is produced by film makers Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn of Banger Productions. They are better known in our circles as the makers of Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey and Global Metal.
