Heathen Beast is a black metal and grindcore band from Mumbai, formed in 2010, whose members perform under the pseudonyms Carvaka, Samkhya and Mimamsa, named after schools of Indian atheist philosophy. The band’s lyrics reject religion and religious control, taking on subjects from the Godhra carnage to Sabarimala.
Across a run of EPs including Ayodhya Burns (2010), The Drowning of the Elephant God (2012), The Carnage of Godhra (2015) and $cam (2017), the band built a reputation as one of Indian metal’s most confrontational voices, before the full-length The Revolution Will Not Be Televised but It Will Be Heard in 2020. The most recent activity found in checked sources dates to 2020, so the band’s current status is unconfirmed.
