ALESTORM – No Grave But The Sea

  • Label: Napalm Records

Album Ho! As the pirates would say. Pirate metallers Alestorm have released their new album No Grave But The Sea and we are happy it’s here! When you think of Alestorm, what comes to mind are pirates, beer, quests, rum and mead, that’s exactly what they deliver with the album (you do need to buy your own beer, rum and mead but at least you have an amazing soundtrack for a fun day). The Scottish metallers have been around for a while now but this album delivers exactly what it’s supposed to; catchy riffs with humourous lyrics and a pirate-y attitude. Starting off strong with the title track and ending at the ‘Treasure Island,’ it an easy listen to get you into the metal party mode.

No Grave But The Sea is, as expected, about death at sea and is the perfect opening track to the album to raise spirits, as does the 2nd song ‘Mexico.’

“Yo-ho Mexico, far to the south where the cactus grow, tequila and a donkey show, Mexico Mexico”.

I don’t think I need to say more. Their self titled track Alestorm has one of the most funny videos I’ve seen in a while but you just have to see that for yourself. One of my favorite tracks of this record is “Fucked with an Anchor” which delivers a wide variety of swear words and rhymes. After an April Fool’s prank about writing an album just for dogs, the band decided it would be a good idea to include it as the extra CD for the deluxe edition.

If you want to live the life of a modern day pirate and have fun listening to an amazing soundtrack, you need to get this album. Its the best party-starter and also goes great with sitting on a beach with a cocktail (which is what I did while I was writing this review).
