Hellwind- New old school metal supergroup from Mumbai

The nods to the old school seems to have been on a rise in India thanks to new releases by Albatross and Kryptos, but now another great quintet has ‘risen from the ashes’ of past bands such as Zephyr and Apollonian Quest, bringing you Hellwind. The band’s line-up is as follows (with innovative duties spelled out): Akshay Deodhar – The Vocal Viscount Rajarshi Bhattacharyya – The Samurai of Shred Kiron Kumar – The Creature of Riff Lagoon Aditya Kadam- Super Commando Groove Demonstealer – The Demon on Drums That’s right, this dream line-up is all set to unleash their wizardry upon you. Take a listen to their demo or read more about the band on their Facebook page, and in their own words: “So grab those tight clothes, put on your make-up, grab a few beers and head down for our show. Because if you look hard enough, the 80s never died…the decade only lay dormant somewhere deep within you. And now, the beast begins to rise again! Rock or die!”

Lamb of God returns to India for the Nokia Alive concert

Nokia brings to us another major music festival that will give us Indian metalheads a chance to witness some powerful international metal acts. They have just announced that they will be bringing to India two-time Grammy Nominated American heavy metal band Lamb of God at the ‘Nokia Alive Concert’ in Bengaluru on May 26th 2012. This is a natural extension of Nokia’s strategy of connecting to the youth of India through music. Lamb of God, who hail from “Richmond- motherfuckin’ Virginia”, are currently the largest selling International band on the planet. A favorite of fans and critics alike, the band was formed back in 1994, and has released six studio albums so far. Their latest album ‘Resolution’ debuted at No.3 on Billboards and went on to become No.1 in the U.S, No.2 in UK and No.1 in World Wide Rock charts. India, which is known to have a rapidly burgeoning metal following, will see the band perform again at the ‘Nokia Alive Concert’ on May 26th in Bangalore. Indian metalheads have already shown an overwhelming response to the festival, with the Facebook event receiving more than 5000 positive responses in just a span of 48 hours! Their first ever India show saw over 8000 people attend being the biggest band among Rock Fans in colleges. India is estimated to have over 110,000 fans of the band as per facebook statistics. A very excited Mark Morton of Lamb of God had this to say about their second coming “We are truly thrilled to announce that Lamb Of God is returning to India! It’s hard to believe that it’s already been two years since we last played Bangalore in May of 2010. That performance stands out to me, personally, as one of the most memorable shows of my entire career. Never in my wildest of rock and roll fantasies did I ever imagine that our music would take us all the way to India! It is nothing short of an honor to be invited back to play for our amazing fans in Bangalore and we look forward to leveling the Palace Grounds with lots of new material from “Resolution”, as well as healthy doses from all of our albums past. Many thanks to our fans in India for their incredible loyalty and support, and we will see y’all soon!” The event is organized by Overture, a Bangalore based company who have carved a niche for themselves in the Live Entertainment Domain. Their flagship property, Summerstorm festival has seen over 15000 people in two editions which featured Lamb of God, Opeth and a host of other Indian and International acts making it one of the most sought after Music festivals in India. Barely 3 weeks have passed since their debut release, and Solar Deity have released yet another single up for streaming on their bandcamp page. As opposed to their debut effort, this track is less of orthodox black metal and more of a mid tempo/atmospheric approach to the genre. Nile cancel India tour

Yet another big international band cancels it’s visit to India after issues with the suits.  An official statement from the band says “We are extremely sad to inform this to our fans in India that our Tour of India has been called off as the visas for 3 of the members were refused today by the Indian Embassy in Washington D.C. 2 people in the travel party were granted the visas in Houston and in Athens, but the rest were not – for reasons that none of us know . The Indian embassy has not cited any reasons for rejection of the visas. It was and is beyond the control of the band, either of the promoters or the artist management. We did all we could to make this happen and tried working on getting the 3 visas for almost a month ! The promoters – Dream Rigs Entertainment (Delhi) and Obliquity India, Lanyard Entertainment and ARK Events (Bangalore) want all fans to know who have booked tickets “online” that they shall be refunded in full by the respective ticketing companies for Delhi and Bangalore concerts. But this is not the end and all of us are going to try to get Nile back to India.” This is not the first time a band has been denied visas to perform in India and it is safe to assume it definitely won’t be the last. One can only look forward to future disappointments.
