The metal world mourns for Jeff Hanneman

One of thrash metal’s most iconic figures, bent low over his guitar with his golden locks falling all over it as he belts those screaming leads out, Jeff Hanneman from Slayer has died of liver failure. Please read this official statement from Slayer:

Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Hacride announce June tour throughout India

French extreme progressive metal band Hacride are ready to return to India in June in a huge way, this time by playing a tour all throughout the country. The poster below was released less than 24 hours ago. The tour is being organized jointly by Orka Networks and The Link Productions. More details to be announced soon so watch this space.

Reptilian Death release album artwork

Mumbai-based death metal band Reptilian Death have broken their visual silence in a huge way by finally revealing the cover artwork for their new album, the title of which is ‘The Dawn of Consummation and Emergence’. The artwork has been done by the venerable Michal ‘Xaay’ Loranc, the same Polish artist who did the job for Demonic Resurrection’s ‘The Return to Darkness’. The album has also been made available for pre-order here.

Skyharbor’s ‘Blinding White Noise’ to be sold as limited edition vinyl

British record label Basick Records will be making 4 albums on their catalogue available as limited edition vinyls to commemorate Record Store Day, on 20th April. The albums were chosen based on public feedback and Delhi-based Skyharbor’s ‘Blinding White Noise’ featured as one of them. Each album will be limited to a total of 500 collector’s edition vinyls. ‘Metal to our (y)ears’: A paper on Indian metal and its fans

Headbangers India would like to announce its support to Vishal Kapatkar, a Masters Student whose dissertation topic is Heavy Metal in India, affects of Public Relations (if any), Media & New Media, ”metal to our (y)ears…”. He is aiming at capturing the experiences and thoughts of Indian metal fans, and illustrating them in his dissertation. Please help him out by taking about 2 minutes to answer this survey created by him.

Purgation signed by Slaughterhouse Records USA

Old-school death metal band Purgation, hailing from Kolkata, have been signed to Slaughterhouse Records, an underground record company based in the United States. The record company released an official video heralding that announcement with the song ‘System Impaled’ by the band:

The band is also getting set to finish recording their cover of ‘Terminal Show’ by Motorhead, to be released by Iron Fist Records as part of the upcoming tribute album to Motorhead.

Albatross confirmed for Burning Sea Festival, Croatia

As if time itself wants to play blinking games with our website, here is another announcement of an Indian metal band at a European festival this year. Heavy/horror metal band from Mumbai, Albatross, have now been confirmed as the 2nd Indian band at Croatia’s Burning Sea Festival in Zadar. This announcement of them joining Inner Sanctum there comes less than 24 hours after the former were confirmed for a slot at Poland’s Metalfest Open Air. Here’s wishing Dr. Hex and the rest of the friendly-neighbourhood cannibals a great session of unleashing the flies on Croatia!

Inner Sanctum confirmed for Metalfest Open Air, Poland

After being confirmed for Burning Sea Open Air in Croatia, Bangalore’s Inner Sanctum have been announced as part of the line-up for Metalfest Poland 2013. This marks their 2nd European appearance of this year and the 4th Indian metal performance in Europe for 2013 so far (the others being Kryptos at WOA Germany and Zygnema at Inferno Open Air Norway). They also plan on announcing more European dates soon so keep watching this space for more updates!

Workshop releases new music video

If it’s a metal video about butt-cracks, chaddis and big ass problems (literally), it’s got to be Workshop! The men in uniform have just released a brand new music video for their track “Gajanand Dhige”.
